Improper water pressure and water temperature can easily cause pigs to have insufficient drinking water, thereby affecting piglet growth and sow's lactation. Severe water shortages can even lead to diseases in the pigs. Poor water quality can cause pigs to become infected. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the water pressure, water quality, and water temperature in the farm during the raising of pigs.

If the water pressure is too high and it is easy to drown, it will not only cause waste of water, but also the pigs will not dare to drink for a long time, resulting in insufficient drinking water. If the water pressure is too low, the pigs may also have insufficient drinking water, especially piglets. The height of the water tower or tank and the height of the drinking fountain can all affect the water pressure. In many piggers, the drinking fountains are usually of a height. The farmers think that such large pigs can drink from the bottom and the pigs can drink from the neck, but it is not true. Drinking fountains are highly uncomfortable and cause the drinking fountains to be unblocked, which can also lead to difficulty in drinking water and decrease or decrease feed intake.

It is difficult to distinguish between good and bad water quality. Excessive levels of heavy metals, pesticide residues in water, and pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses cannot be seen with the naked eye. Only when the pigs are sick can they be known. Iron ions in water are good for certain fine tastes

The bacteria grows and it easily clogs the water pipes. Therefore, water quality should be checked frequently. In the summer, water is prone to grow pathogenic microorganisms. The water tower and water tank should be cleaned regularly and water-disinfectant should be added to the water with a suitable concentration of disinfectant.

High ambient temperatures increase pigs' water requirements, and sows and finishing pigs are particularly evident. With 20°C as the benchmark, every sow above 1°C, the sow needs to increase drinking water by 0.2 liters per day. The increase in drinking water leads to increased urine output, which is an effective way to reduce body temperature. The data show that ensuring sufficient drinking water can increase the weight of piglets by 1 kg per head during weaning for 24 days and shorten the time from sow weaning to re-breeding to 1 day. At the same time, the data also showed that in a hot pig house, when the water temperature was 11°C, the pig's daily drinking amount was 10.5 liters; when the water temperature was 30°C, the drinking amount was only 0.6 liters. It can be seen that the appropriate water temperature is one of the important conditions for ensuring that pigs can drink enough water. Therefore, the water system introduced from the water tower to the piggery should be insulated and protected from heat, and the water pipes must not be exposed to the sun in the summer.
