Release date: 2018-06-12 Science · Signal 2018.6.5 Among various immune cell types, divalent cation channel kinase (TRPM7) regulates cell survival, migration, and effector function. Researchers such as Chris Haramos of the Department of Cellular and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto in Canada found that the B cell-specific deletion of TRPM7 impeded the development of peripheral blood B cells in mice. The absence of TRPM7 increases the apoptosis of B cell precursors in the bone marrow. In vitro, magnesium supplementation can remedy B cell developmental defects caused by TRPM7 deficiency. These studies indicate that the ion channel activity of TRPM7 is critical for B cell development.
