In the field of high-end medical devices, 90% of the market share has long been monopolized by foreign-funded enterprises, and most domestic companies can only compete in the low-end market. "GPS" long-term monopoly of the high-end market

According to the statistics of the State Food and Drug Administration, as of the end of November 2015, there were 14,151 medical device enterprises nationwide, and there are still small and scattered features. Xu Ming, vice president of the Chinese Medicine Insurance Association, said that at present, medical device companies with a true scale and output value of more than 20 million yuan account for less than 20%. Medical devices are subdivided into tens of thousands of categories in 43 categories. From the perspective of the high-end medical diagnostic equipment market, especially in the top three hospitals in the first- and second-tier cities, the proportion of foreign capital is very high. Foreign countries account for more than 90% of the country's high-end medical diagnostic equipment. Although there are currently rising stars in Shanghai, such as Shanghai Lian Ying and Shenzhen Mindray, they are catching up. In terms of market share, there is still a big gap compared with foreign companies such as GM, Philips and Siemens. In terms of high-quality consumables, such as brackets, the competitiveness of foreign-funded enterprises including foreign capital is still very obvious. “Domestic medical device companies are mainly concentrated in the field of low-quality consumables with low profit margins.”

In recent years, in order to break the "GPS" (General Electric, Philips and Siemens) foreign medical device companies in the domestic market, the national market has released a signal to accelerate the localization of medical devices. According to the data, at the beginning of June last year, the National Health and Family Planning Commission issued the “Emergency Notice of the National Health and Family Planning Commission on Controlling the Rapid Expansion of Public Hospitals”, requiring that some hospitals be oversized, pursuing bed size and competing to purchase large-scale equipment, including large-scale imports. Problems such as medical devices are contained. In August last year, the State Health Planning Commission stated that it would “focus on promoting the use of domestic medical equipment in the top three hospitals”. Since the beginning of this year, the local government has also joined the release policy to benefit the industry. The Jingzhou Central Hospital in Hubei has signed a cooperation agreement with the domestically produced equipment leader Shenzhen Mindray Medical . The health plan for the next five years in Ganzhou, Sichuan also proposes that by 2020, the proportion of domestic large-scale medical equipment in the medical institutions of Chenzhou City must reach 40% of the total number of configurations. The hospital's control fee target of the National Health and Family Planning Commission has recently reduced the national medical expenses growth rate from 20% to less than 10% in 2017. One of the measures is to preferentially purchase domestic high-value consumables.

Xu Ming believes that from the perspective of the entire industry, whether it is high-end medical equipment, small and medium-sized medical equipment, high-quality consumables, low-quality consumables, accessories, "import substitution" is the general trend. From the policy level, the government encourages domestically-made equipment to be preferred in local bidding. From the perspective of market behavior, with the improvement of corporate competitiveness, domestic enterprises have already achieved import substitution in some places. “Although the situation of each sub-industry is different, the degree of development of import substitution is not the same, but the industry trend cannot be changed.”

Domestic medical device companies are emerging

According to market statistics, in the field of high-end medical diagnostic equipment, an average of more than 90% of the market share is occupied by importers. Taking the MR market in 2013 as an example, imported equipment accounts for 85% of the country, while in the CT market, domestic equipment accounts for only 8%, and the MI market is all imported equipment. Yan Hong, senior vice president of Shanghai Lianying Medical Technology Co., Ltd. pointed out that the development of advanced medical equipment industry in China is not good. The main reason is that it lacks the awareness of independent innovation. Most enterprises only satisfy one share in the low-end market; Weak, no intensive development model, lack of leading enterprises; Third, there are products without brands, product quality, performance, design, technology, services and other aspects of backwardness.
