DNA aptamer is expected to improve drug efficacy 20 times

The research team of Saitama University Professor Saito Tatsuo and the Associate Professor of the University of Tokyo, Mr. Yoshimoto Kentaro developed a new technology that uses synthetic DNA as a therapeutic drug to increase the efficacy by about 20 times.

The DNA they designed is called "DNA aptamer", which is a fragment consisting of dozens of DNA bases, which strengthens the binding strength to the surface receptors (proteins) of pathogenic cells and exerts therapeutic effects.

The aptamer is smaller than the antibody and can label the substances in the cells. It is a hot spot for the development of new therapeutic drugs. DNA aptamers are expected to be used as drugs. In addition to changing the length of binding sites to obtain more efficient DNA aptamers, researchers are also considering DNA aptamers for other proteins.
