More than half of the neurons in the human brain are cerebellar granule neurons. More and more studies have shown that dysplasia or malignant hyperplasia of cerebellar granule neurons is closely related to the occurrence of cerebellar atrophy and medulloblastoma, but the fine-time air-conditioning control mechanism behind it is not clear. A few days ago, the "Academic Academy of the United States Academy of Sciences" published the latest results of the research on the regulation mechanism of cerebellar development by the research team of the Institute of Military Cognition and Brain Science, Wu Haitao. This study reveals for the first time in the world a new key molecule and its signaling mechanism regulating cerebellar development, which is expected to provide new ideas and targets for clinical cerebellar atrophy and diagnosis and treatment of medulloblastoma.

According to reports, in February 2019, Wu Haitao team based on a series of genetic, cellular and biochemical experiments, found that a key molecule not reported has integrated the modulation of Wnt and "sounding factor" two classical morphogen signals. The core function is demonstrated during the delivery process, and it is confirmed that the molecule has the dual function of “one stone and two birds” in the regulation of cerebellar development, that is, by inhibiting the over-activation of Wnt signaling and mediating the activation of the “sounding factor” signal, the nerve is maintained. The self-renewal potential of stem cells and the precise balance of promoting the proliferation of granule precursor cells.

Since 2014, under the support of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Excellent Youth Fund Project and the above-mentioned projects, the National Key Basic Research and Development Program, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Beijing Brain Science and Brain Research Center, Wu Haitao led the team to open the brain.
