Recently, researchers from Twente University have developed a small 3D printing robot that can help doctors diagnose breast cancer and become a revolutionary new tool for biopsy. This type of robot is called Stormram 4, and although it looks a bit cold, it can save lives.

“Manually guiding breast biopsy procedures is time consuming and sometimes not very effective,” said Vincent Groenhuis, one of the developers of the robot. “It uses a very thick needle to extract large amounts of tissue samples and then extracts the most representative samples of living tissue sections through multiple attempts.”

In order to overcome these problems and obtain a more accurate biopsy, this Stormram 4 3D printing robot came into being. “Because of the high magnetic field, current robots cannot be used in MRI systems. So we started an MRI-compatible robotic system for breast biopsy.”

The researchers found a solution in 3D printed plastic that did not affect the magnetic field of the MRI scanner and, after the last test, had successfully completed four tests.

The team encountered a series of challenges in the development of the first three storage devices, the most important of which is how to solve this problem. Since the electric motor also interferes with the MRI imaging scanning system, in the current situation, the Stormram 3D printing robot is driven by air pressure and has external control by the operator.

Disposable Laparoscopic Trocar

Disposable laparoscopic trocars are typically made of plastic or metal and are designed for single-use only. They are available in a range of sizes and shapes to accommodate different patient needs and surgical procedures. The trocar is typically inserted into the patient's abdomen using a technique called "blind insertion," which involves inserting the trocar through the skin without direct visualization of the underlying tissue.

The disposable nature of these trocars makes them a convenient and cost-effective option for many surgical procedures. They are also less likely to cause infections or other complications compared to reusable trocars, as they are sterile and do not require cleaning or sterilization between uses. However, it is important to follow proper disposal procedures to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.

Disposable trocars are designed for single use, reducing the risk of infection and cross-contamination between patients. Trocars are usually made of plastic and come in a variety of sizes, depending on the size of the incision and the surgical instruments used.
