The normal growth of Clivia should be in full bloom before and after the Spring Festival. The stalks are 20-30 cm taller than the leaves. However, sometimes there are short peduncles that stand on the buds that are about to open, and do not stretch upwards in the middle of the foliage. This is commonly known as "card neck flower."

The "card neck flower" is mainly due to poor cultivation and management at ordinary times, and the growth is weak; then the temperature of the potted soil is too low, too high, or insufficient water in the course of elongation of the pedicel. The former situation is not good for the year, and the latter situation can be solved by adjusting the temperature and water and fertilizer.

Clivia native to South Africa, the suitable growth temperature is 15 °C -25 °C. When the flower spikes are plucked, the temperature is lower than 10°C, higher than 28°C, or the temperature difference is less than 5°C. The room is too dry. Even if the water is sufficient, the growth will be inhibited.

To prevent the emergence of "cannibal flowers" in Clivia, in addition to the need for careful cultivation and management throughout the year, when Clivia lobelia is sterilized, it should be kept at room temperature at about 15°C, and watered properly to keep it moist. In the northern region, Clivia is placed in a sunny house, and once every two weeks, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are topdressed and applied continuously for 2-3 times, which is good for flowering stems.
