1 Subject content and scope of application This standard specifies the basic classification of steam traps.
This standard applies to the classification of the steam trap opening and closing parts, regardless of its specific structure.
2 terms
2.1 Steam trap An automatic control device that automatically discharges condensate from a closed container containing steam while maintaining no leakage of fresh steam. It also allows steam to pass at a predetermined flow rate when necessary.
3 Classification According to the driving method of the opening and closing parts, steam traps can be divided into three categories:
a mechanical steam trap driven by condensate level change (see 3.1);
b. Thermostatic steam traps driven by condensate temperature changes (see 3.2);
c. Thermodynamic steam traps driven by condensate dynamics (see 3.3).

3.2 Thermostatic steam trap 3.2.1 Steam pressure steam trap | Driving the opening and closing of the opening and closing member by the imbalance between the pressure of the condensed water and the vapor pressure of the volatile liquid in the deformable element |
3.2.2 Thermoelastic or bimetallic steam traps | The bimetal or thermoelastic element is deformed by the temperature change of the condensate to drive the opening and closing of the opening and closing member |
3.2.3 Solid or liquid expansion steam trap | Acting on a component with a large thermal expansion coefficient due to temperature change of the condensed water to drive the opening and closing of the opening and closing member |
3.3 Thermodynamic steam trap 3.3.1 Disc steam trap | Switching action of the opening and closing member caused by the pressure difference between the inlet and the pressure chamber |
3.3.2 Pulse steam trap | Switching action of the opening and closing member caused by the pressure difference between the inlet and the pressure chamber |
