Xinhua News Agency, Jerusalem, October 6 (Reporter Chen Wenxian) The Tel Aviv Medical Center in Israel recently released a study saying that the ketamine used for injection, if taken orally, can effectively, quickly and safely relieve depressive symptoms.

The findings are published in the new issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry. Studies have shown that oral ketamine is convenient for patients to take at home or in the clinic without intravenous injection. At the same time, the patient's treatment effect can last for more than a week after taking the drug.

The medical center researchers tested 41 randomly selected patients with depression, 22 taking ketamine and 19 taking a placebo. The patient took 3 times a week for 21 days and the researchers tested the patients for different time periods after taking the drug.

The results showed that after taking ketamine, the patient's depressive symptoms were relieved within a few hours and continued throughout the study period, but those who took placebo did not improve their symptoms.

The researchers said that patients with ketamine will have mild side effects such as fatigue, nausea and dizziness, but these side effects will disappear within 1 hour.

Previously, researchers in the United States and other countries have noticed that low-dose ketamine produces a rapid antidepressant effect. However, because ketamine is clinically a major limitation as an antidepressant, researchers are still looking for safer and more effective antidepressants.
